Fundación Ortiz-Gurdián – Art Center

Fundación Ortiz-Gurdian is a non-profit organization whose objective is to assist and contribute towards the development of culture in Nicaragua, with a main focus on visual arts, to encourage its projection at a local, regional and international level.

The building known as the foundation’s Art Center, was once the home of General Norberto Ramírez, one of the main leaders of Central American liberalism. The house was built between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 19th century, and is a perfect example of a Nicaraguan colonial home.

The Art Center features works of art that go from the pre-Columbian, going through The Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic, Romanticism, and modern art. Fundación Ortíz-Gurdián surprises us all with the best option León has to offer, and is one of the best museums in the continent.

The museum’s visitors can find works of art by famous painters like Rubens, Molinari, Miró, Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, Diego Rivera, Fernando Botero, Wilfredo Lam, among many others.
